Akaneya Coffee in Karuizawa

Akaneya Coffee was the first coffee shop I encountered when I arrived at Karuizawa. There was a shop near my hotel. But I didn't have my coffee at that shop, I had my first cup of coffee for my Japan coffee trip in the shop at Kyu Karuizawa area. I was attracted by the historical aura emitted from the shop. I was there at around 10:30am. I was clearly the first customer of the day. The baristas seemed to be getting ready for the shop open. The shop was two-storey building, I only went to the downstair. There was a long corridor at the ground floor. When I entered the shop, it was like I went back to the old time of Japan. Elegant coffee cups are displayed on the cupboard. Everything was clean and tidy.

I read the menu, there were only tea or coffee. Very simple. Of course, I chose coffee. The barista did the drip for me.

It is always pleasure to watch coffee blooming. Coffee was then served with white sugar and milk. I wanted to enjoy the original taste of coffee and I was really used to drink the "black coffee" if this was brew by hand drip. At that moment, I could not turn myself into the mode of Kissaten. If time were to turn back, I would have tried the milk. The mouthfeel of the coffee was thin and light. The taste was clear and bright but not really bitter. It was a good cup for the early morning. I was refreshed but not over-refreshed. I asked the barista whether the beans were single origin. This was house blend.

If reader would like to feel aura of Kissaten and the old time of Japan, this is certainly the place to go. Old Karuizawa, this might be the place of old Karuizawa.
